Each person will post their own images and analysis.
Set up a still life. You can use any type of objects you’d like. Be creative! (Ideas: candy, makeup, school supplies, flowers, plants, etc). Group members may share props but each person must make their own photographs using different set-up, lighting, composition etc.
Light the still life in an interesting way. Then, use your understanding of depth of field to make two photographs:
1. Shallow DOF (less in focus front to back)
2. Greater DOF (more in focus front to back)
2. Greater DOF (more in focus front to back)
Rules: Use strobes to light your still life (NOT continuous lights). You may use reflectors, softboxes, fill cards, or diffusion. You MAY move the camera to emphasize a shallow or wide DOF, which means your final photographs will probably have different compositions.
Post: 2 photographs. Label each image with your camera settings in the following format: ISO 100, 1/125 @ f/3.5.
Describe your setup (i.e. how many lights you used, where the lights were in relation to your subject, whether you used fill cards/diffusion, the settings of the strobes, etc.). Then discuss what you did in each photograph to emphasize the Depth of Field.
Try to set your focus point manually. If you get confused, refer to the Wall of Knowledge for instructions. If focus points are not working for you try switching to manual focus (use focus ring on camera lens) You should be checking your focus on the screen by zooming into 100% over the area that should be focused.
