Assignment 1: Characteristics of Light

Choose a working group. You will meet and work with this group weekly until the end of the semester.

Everyone must turn in their own photos.

Choose a piece of fruit as your subject. It’s best to use a fruit that stands up (i.e.: an apple, pineapple, pear, etc.). Using only the continuous lights we worked with in class, take two images where you vary the quality of light.

• One image using hard/direct light
• One image using soft/diffused

Then, take four images where you vary the angle/direction of the light. Do not move the subject, only the light.

• Light from the front
• Light from the side
• Light from above
• Light from below

Create your blog on Blogger and email me the link.

Post your first assignment with "Assignment 1" in the title.

Be sure to label EACH of your photos with “Hard/Direct Light”, “Soft/Diffused Light”, “Light from the front”, etc.
